NOT SO HERE (work in progress) will be a multi-technical installation that transforms the ancestral altar ins- pired by South-East Asian animist cults into an autonomous digital entity. This hybrid object is embodied by manufactured mechanical eyes whose eyeballs and eyelids are powered by motors. These are placed in a certain as yet undetermined volume. The aim of this work is to explore the dynamics of interaction and intergenerational trans- mission with the spirit world, through these electro-mechanical eyes isolated from any other part of the body. It also aims to explore the role of ghosts/spirits in Vietnamese society and the interface between the living and the non-living that is ancestor worship. These rituals are a pillar of living together in Vietnam.
