Starting from the idea of lending drawn and handwritten gestures to machines, I build wall-mounted pendulum plotters that deploy drawing strokes in machinic performances that seem to be the antithesis of what an industrial machine should be: in this case, slow, soft and somewhat imprecise machines.
What is drawn is inspired by a variety of elements, systematically translated into computerised vector paths: drawings, family archives, everyday objects, stories from the Vietnamese diaspora, other fragments that blur the lines…
The idea is to operate a game of confusion and hybrid representation, between digital automation and nostalgia for excavated images, by machines from which we often expect a certain neutrality but which here appear to be endowed with agentivity…
